One year ago I started to head in the direction of my dream of becoming a counselor. I enrolled in the Chemical Dependency program at Spokane Falls Community College. I am now getting decent grades and heading towards working in the field of Chemical Dependency. Today I have the goal to eventually become a gambling counselor in private practice.
For the last ten years I was on the roller coaster ride of bi polar disorder. In the mid nineties I was hospitalized over four times for bi polar and suicide related episodes. I tried over seven different medications and went through many different doctors.
The Roller coaster Ride started to even out when I met a nurse practitioner named Michael Rice who stabilized me and took me off of some of the meds that made me sick. I was with Michael for ten years and I reluctantly tried new medications as they came along and they worked even better as Michael was right.
Today I am with one of Michael’s former students Ryan and he is awesome! He has my on the same meds that Michael had me on and does talk therapy that really helps. Today the challenge is sleeping too much on the days that I do not have anything scheduled.
